Best Bitcoin Business Accounts in 2026
Jackson Mikalic | Head of Business Development
The best bitcoin business account depends on who can move the company's bitcoin and who has to approve it. Onramp fits companies that want team approvals and Multi-Institution Custody, where the company holds no keys. Coinbase Business fits companies that also take crypto payments. River is a simple bitcoin-only account for one authorized user. Kraken suits active traders. Unchained fits teams that want to hold their own keys in a 2-of-3 multisig.

Buying bitcoin as a company is easy almost anywhere. The differences show up later: when a second person needs to approve a withdrawal, when your accountant needs access without being able to move funds, or when the one person with the login is no longer around. This guide compares six accounts on those points, using what each company publishes on its own site. If you haven't set up the company side yet (documents, board approval, a treasury policy), start with How to Buy and Hold Bitcoin Through Your Business or LLC.
What to Compare Before You Open a Business Account
Six questions separate these accounts more than price does.
- Who can move the bitcoin? One login, one custodian, the company's own hardware, or a quorum of independent institutions.
- Can you add users with different roles? An owner who can move funds, an admin, and view-only access for your accountant or partners.
- Can a second person be required to approve a withdrawal? One person starts it, another approves it, the way a wire works.
- What happens if the person with access is no longer around? Continuity should follow the company's ownership documents, not one person's password.
- What will you actually pay? Compare the fee on the way you'll buy. A company buying on a schedule pays very differently from one making a single large purchase.
- Bitcoin only, or many assets? A bitcoin-only account keeps the treasury policy simple. A multi-asset account makes sense if you also accept or hold other tokens.

Onramp
Best for: companies that want named users, approvals and continuity, with custody where no single institution or person can move the bitcoin.
Onramp's business accounts hold the company's bitcoin in Multi-Institution Custody, in a vault titled to the company. Three institutions protect your bitcoin. No one of them can lose it, move it, or use it, and nothing moves without your permission. Multi-institution custody works like a bank vault that needs two keyholders to open: it takes two of the three (Onramp, Tetra Trust, and CoinCover) to move your bitcoin. There are no hardware wallets, seed phrases, backups, or PINs to manage.
Your team gets owner, admin and view-only roles, and an approval policy can put a second person on withdrawals. Every withdrawal from the vault is also verified by video with the custody institutions. If someone with access leaves or is no longer around, control follows the company's ownership documented at verification, not one person's login. Business verification takes about one business day once every owner has finished ID verification. Current pricing is on the pricing page.
Consider something else if: you need to accept crypto payments or hold assets other than bitcoin. Onramp is bitcoin only.
Onramp holds $1B+ in bitcoin under Multi-Institution Custody and has a SOC 2 Type I report. See Onramp for business.
Coinbase Business
Best for: companies that want to accept crypto payments and hold several assets in one account.
Coinbase Business is an operating account for startups and small businesses, available in the US and Singapore. It covers trading across 200+ assets, invoicing, payment links, checkout and payouts, plus rewards on USDC balances. Coinbase says the application is free and that it charges a fee on each trade and each completed payment, shown inside the account.
Coinbase's help center lists three roles: an Owner who can trade, send, withdraw and invite users; a Bookkeeper with view-only access; and an Accounts receivable role for invoices and payment links. Every action is logged. The account is linked to the person verified during the application, and transferring ownership means contacting Coinbase. The help center doesn't describe a step where a second person approves a withdrawal.
Consider something else if: you want approvals on withdrawals, or custody that doesn't depend on a single company. See Onramp vs Coinbase.
For large institutions: Coinbase Prime
Coinbase Prime is Coinbase's prime brokerage for institutions, covering execution, financing, custody and staking. Custody is provided by Coinbase Custody Trust Company, a New York limited purpose trust company and qualified custodian, which maintains SOC 1 Type II and SOC 2 Type II audits. Prime uses Initiator, Approver and Team Manager roles, and each portfolio needs either an Administrator or one of each. Pricing isn't published. It's built for funds and institutions that trade actively across many assets, not for an operating company holding bitcoin.
River
Best for: a founder or single operator who wants a simple, bitcoin-only account.
River supports LLCs, corporations, trusts, partnerships, nonprofits, sole proprietorships, solo 401(k)s, IRA LLCs and IRA trusts. There's no cost to open or maintain the account, and River says it reviews new business applications within one business day. One-time buys cost 1.00% up to $1 million, falling to 0.25% above $15 million. Recurring buys are free after the first seven days. River also pays interest on cash held through its partner bank and can convert incoming mining payouts to cash automatically.
River says it holds client bitcoin in full-reserve custody and publishes proof of reserves. Its help center states that a business account supports only one authorized individual, who can buy, sell, send and receive.
Consider something else if: more than one person needs access, or a second person should approve withdrawals. See Onramp vs River.
Kraken
Best for: companies that trade actively or need API access across many assets.
Kraken accepts corporations, LLCs, sole proprietorships, partnerships, trusts and some retirement plans. There's no fee to open or maintain an account. Trading fees depend on 30-day volume. Kraken asks for personal documents from every beneficial owner and every person who will access the account, and standard processing takes about five business days. A verified personal account can't be converted to a business account, and funds can't move between business and personal accounts. Larger clients can use Kraken Institutional, which adds subaccounts, FIX API access and an OTC desk.
Consider something else if: you only want to hold bitcoin and don't need an exchange.
Strike
Best for: bitcoin-only businesses that want to accept bitcoin payments, pay bills from bitcoin, or borrow against it.
Strike's business account covers buying bitcoin, accepting bitcoin on-chain or over Lightning with settlement in dollars or bitcoin, paying US bills up to $95,000 each, and bitcoin-backed loans starting at 7.75% APR. Strike says bitcoin is held in segregated cold storage, backed 1:1, and that it is SOC 2 Type II audited and publishes proof of reserves. Most businesses are onboarded within 24 hours. Strike's business page doesn't describe users, roles or approvals, and its published trading-fee schedule covers personal accounts.
Consider something else if: you need several users with approvals. See Onramp vs Strike.
Unchained Signature for Business
Best for: bitcoin-native teams that want to hold their own keys, with someone on staff who's comfortable running the setup.
Unchained uses collaborative custody: a 2-of-3 multisig vault where the company holds two keys and Unchained holds one. Unchained can't move the bitcoin on its own and can help recover if the company loses a key. Signature for Business costs $7,500 a year (or $2,000 a quarter) and includes up to 10 vaults, four hardware wallets, preferred trading fees and dedicated support. Standard trading is 1.0%. Unchained offers permissions for key holders, auditors and approval policies, and key replacement when an employee leaves.
The company keeps responsibility for its two keys: the devices, their backups, and rotating keys as people change. For a team that wants that control, it works well. For a team that would rather not manage keys at all, the alternative is custody where the company holds none. Collaborative vs Multi-Institution Custody compares the two. If you're moving a company vault, see How to Move Your Company's Bitcoin From Unchained or Casa to Multi-Institution Custody.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can an LLC open a bitcoin account?
Yes. All six providers here open business accounts, and River and Kraken list LLCs by name. Expect to provide the EIN, articles of organization, the operating agreement, and ID for beneficial owners and anyone who will access the account.
Which bitcoin business accounts have no monthly fee?
River and Kraken have no fee to open or maintain an account, and Coinbase Business has no application fee. All of them charge when you buy or sell. Unchained Signature for Business charges an annual fee. Onramp's current pricing is on its pricing page.
Can I require two people to approve a bitcoin withdrawal?
On Onramp, an approval policy can put a second person on withdrawals. Unchained offers approval policies for its vaults, and Coinbase Prime uses separate Initiator and Approver roles. River supports one authorized individual, and Coinbase Business's help center doesn't describe a withdrawal approval step.
Who holds the keys in a bitcoin business account?
At an exchange or single custodian, the provider holds them. With Unchained, the company holds two of three. With Onramp's Multi-Institution Custody, the company holds none: it takes two of three independent institutions to move the bitcoin, and nothing moves without your permission.
Can my accountant see the account without being able to move funds?
Onramp has view-only roles, and Coinbase Business has a view-only Bookkeeper role. Unchained offers auditor permissions. River supports one authorized individual.
Can I move bitcoin from my personal account into my business account?
Keep company and personal accounts separate. Kraken, for one, doesn't allow transfers between them. Moving bitcoin you own personally into a company can count as a contribution or a sale, so talk to your CPA first.
How does a company account for bitcoin?
Under US GAAP, companies measure bitcoin at fair value, with changes in net income (ASU 2023-08). See what the FASB guidance means for companies, and confirm the treatment with your auditor or CPA.
