Earn, explained.
Michael Tanguma | Chief Executive Officer
Clients who actively use Onramp Finance receive up to 5% in Onramp-funded rewards, calculated against their cash balance. The rate you earn depends on your client tier. This post walks through how the tiers work, how rewards are calculated and paid, where the cash sits, and what the program is and is not.
The rate depends on your tier
Onramp Finance cash rewards are structured across three tiers. The tier is determined by your relationship with Onramp.
- Onramp Finance — up to 3%. Free tier. Open to any Onramp Finance account holder.
- Core — up to 4%. Clients with a standalone Multi-Institution Custody vault.
- Private — up to 5%. Onramp Private clients with Multi-Institution Custody.
Rates are current tier maximums, subject to eligibility and program terms.
Genesis members earn at the Private tier rate regardless of whether they are a Core or Private client. Genesis status is permanent.
Rewards apply to your full cash balance — no cap, no minimum.
Keeping your account active
To actively earn rewards, an account must meet its tier's activity requirement each calendar month.
- Onramp Finance tier. At least one trade or one deposit into the Earn account during the calendar month. A trade is any buy or sell of bitcoin or gold through the Onramp Finance brokerage. Size does not matter.
- Core and Private tiers. Account must be current on custody fees.
If the requirement is not met, no rewards are paid for that month. Eligibility resets the following month.
The requirement reflects what the product is for: an active trading and custody relationship, not a passive holding account. The activity threshold is low on purpose. The point is that the account is in active use.
How rewards are calculated and paid
- Calculation. Rewards are calculated daily based on your average daily cash balance and the applicable tier rate, for each month your account meets its activity requirement.
- Payment. Rewards pay monthly into your Onramp Finance Earn account.
Once the activity requirement is met, the full calendar month earns — qualifying activity does not need to happen at the start of the month.
Why the tier system exists
The tier system reflects the depth of the relationship. A client who holds bitcoin in a standalone Multi-Institution Custody vault is paying Onramp for custody. A Private client is working with Onramp across custody, trading, and retirement. The economics of those relationships support a higher rewards rate for clients holding cash balances — value passed back to the client.
Holders on the free Onramp Finance tier still earn up to 3% — supported by Onramp's diversified revenue across the platform.
How to move tiers
Upgrading tier is straightforward and can happen at any time.
- From Onramp Finance to Core. Open a standalone Multi-Institution Custody vault. Your cash rewards rate steps up to the Core tier maximum the following calendar month.
- From Core to Private. Upgrade to Onramp Private. Reach out to your advisor or contact the team through your dashboard.
- Genesis. Genesis members earn at the Private tier rate regardless of client tier. Genesis is closed to new members once all 210 founding spots are filled.
Where your cash sits
The cash infrastructure runs through our partnership with Stripe, which provides institutional-grade settlement and treasury management. The rewards are funded by Onramp.
Cash in your Earn account is available on demand. No lockups, no withdrawal windows, no notice periods. You can move cash into bitcoin, into gold, out to a linked bank, or spend it through the Onramp Finance card at any time.
What Earn is not
It is not a bank account. Onramp Finance is not a bank, and cash balances are not deposits. The rewards program is not interest, not APY, and not APR. It is a rewards program funded by Onramp.
It is not FDIC insured. Because the cash balance is not a bank deposit, FDIC insurance does not apply. Stripe, through whom our cash infrastructure runs, operates under its own regulatory framework for client funds.
It is not a fixed rate. The tier rates published above are the rates Onramp is currently offering. Onramp reserves the right to adjust rates. If a rate changes, holders will be notified in advance.
It is not guaranteed. Rewards depend on tier eligibility, on the continued operation of the program, and on Onramp's ability to fund them. Program terms may be modified or discontinued with notice.
How Earn fits into the platform
The Earn account is the front door of Onramp Finance. When cash is held in the Earn account and you're actively using the platform, Onramp rewards your engagement. When you are ready to move into a harder asset, one tap converts cash into bitcoin through our low-cost brokerage or into direct gold ownership. Bitcoin purchased through the brokerage is held in qualified custody with BitGo. Holders who want distributed custody can move into a standalone Multi-Institution Custody vault at any time — which also steps cash rewards up to the Core tier.
The Earn account keeps you positioned between decisions — and active use of the platform is what earns rewards.
Quick FAQ
What keeps an Onramp Finance tier account active? One trade or one deposit into the Earn account during the calendar month.
What keeps a Core or Private tier account active? The account must be current on custody fees.
What happens if I don't meet the requirement in a given month? You will not be eligible for rewards until the following month.

When do I get my first rewards payment? At the end of the first full calendar month in which your account meets its activity requirement.
